I won’t mention the speaker that said this but he’s no longer on the perform better tour and hasn’t been for a while.
He said something that I will never forget.
“If you want to get out of shape, just open up a gym”
Close to decade later those words sing loud and clear in my head.
As a trainer back then, I had no idea what the hell he was talking about.
How could a person that runs a gym get out of shape?
Well, when I opened my gym and got a few years in, I found out.
Maybe you have too?
Being a trainer is physically and mentally taxing, people underestimate this.
Personal Trainer: There is long hours, most don’t get proper sleep, it’s very physical work and it’s emotionally draining trying to help people all day.
Business owner Add the stress of hiring, finances, marketing, sales, negotiation, community outreach, customer service, staff training and all the other stuff that the owner of the gym has to do…it becomes an exhausting list…Not to mention, no one ever taught any of this stuff to you.
But when you combine the two, that’s where things get ugly.
When you combine the two for an extended period of time…bad stuff happens
Your brain takes a ton of energy to run, 20% of your body's energy is eaten up by your brain, and this is at rest!
Think about when you try to get a workout at your gym.
You start a set, then out of the corner of your eye you see someone leaned the plates against the dry wall.
Then you see the top of the squat racks have not been dusted in 4 weeks.
Then you look over at one of your trainers letting a client use bad form, which pisses you off.
Then the phone rings.
Then, someone says, Hey man, you got a second.
Now that you’ve had 40 minutes rest from the last set you did you’re ready for the next set.
No you’re not.
You’re ready to back into the office and put out some more fires.
You’re ready to do anything expect workout…because your brain robbed all of your energy.
I’m not going to sugar coat this and say it’s easy but step one is realizing what you’re up against.
Step 2 is realizing how important your personal health is to the success of your business and protecting it at all costs.
If your sleep, workouts, nutrition, stress management and focus on your personal health has taken a back seat…
I wrote this to you.
Time to make a move dude.

P.S. I wrote this to myself over a month ago too
